Full job description
Whissell: Building more than a Job Overview We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Class 1 Truck and Quad Driver to join our dynamic trucking division. In this role, you will operate heavy-duty trucks and quad trailers to transport freight efficiently and safely across various job sites and locations. Your expertise will ensure timely deliveries while maintaining the highest safety standards. Principal Responsibilities: Haul a variety of construction materials, including gravel, crushed rock, clay, sand, topsoil, and other materials as required. Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle and conduct additional inspections throughout the shift as required. Identify, document, and report vehicle deficiencies to the Transportation Manager and appropriate Shop personnel. Maintain accurate daily logbooks and required documentation in accordance with the Commercial Vehicle legislation and company requirements. Liaise with Dispatch to receive and confirm daily assignments, routes, and work locations. Operate the assigned truck and quad safely and efficiently while completing daily transportation assignments. Load, transport, and unload materials in accordance with safe transportation practices, company procedures, and applicable legislation. Ensure vehicle, trailer, and axle weights remain within legislated weight limits. Properly secure loads and cargo in accordance with legislative requirements and company procedures. Safely operate around active construction sites, heavy equipment, ground crews, and other vehicles. Follow directions from the Foreman, Superintendent, Dispatch, and Transportation Manager. Communicate any changes in site conditions, delays, hazards, or other concerns to the appropriate personnel. Maintain the assigned truck and quad in a clean, safe, and presentable condition. Complete required paperwork, inspections, and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Perform other duties related to the position as required. Qualifications Minimum 4 years of Class 1 driving experience. Minimum 2 years of truck and quad experience. Previous experience hauling aggregates, rock, loam, clay, and other construction materials. Experience operating in the City of Calgary, including tight, congested, and high-traffic areas. Strong knowledge of safe driving practices, transportation procedures, and applicable legislation. Previous civil construction experience is considered an asset. Experience Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting is considered an asset. Additional construction or industry-related field tickets are considered an asset. Must be able to work independently while maintaining a strong team and customer-service focus. Must possess a valid Class 1 Driver’s Licence and provide a recent, clean driver’s abstract. RSTS training is considered an asset. Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing the physical requirements of the position. Must be willing and able to work in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment and adapt to changing site conditions and assignments. Why Join us?
